Outdoor Season Begins for Track & Field
WINONA, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's and women's track & field team competed in their first outdoor meet on Saturday, participating in the St. Mary's Dingels/Brueggen Open. Before that, two athletes on the women's team competed at the Washington University Invite.
Friday night at 9:30pm
Megan Sauer competed against some of the country's best 10k athletes. She ran a 15 second school record and competed well in a six mile race. On Saturday morning
Kirsten Elyea ran nearly a minute and twenty seconds faster than only a year ago. Coach Dunn noted, "
Great weekend for both women as they competed and truly got after their races, this will really set them up for the remainder of the season."
Saturday at St. Mary's:
Chloe Hoffman started her outdoor season with a great personal record in the 400m with a 68 second performance, followed by another 68 second leg of the 4x400 meter relay hinting at bright things for later this season.
Tanya Sherrard opened the outdoor season with a new school record by tossing the discus 27.97 meters. "
Tanya has been fired up to throw discus since the outdoor season ended last year and has been putting in a lot of work to get better" said throws coach Andrew Ferguson.
The men's team was led by the hurdle and long jump tandem of
Nicolas Bruss and
Noah Larson. Bruss won the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.17 and finished fourth in the long jump, soaring 5.99 meters. Larson won the long jump with a 6.22 meter jump (.02 meters shy of a school record) and was third in the high hurdles clocking a 16.84.
