MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's tennis team defeated Martin Luther College on Thursday afternoon for the second time this season in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match play. Final score was 7-2. With the win, the Vikings locked up a UMAC Postseason Tournament berth.
SINGLES:
Similar to the match last week at Martin Luther, the Vikings went 5-for-6 in singles competition, winning all five of the matches in straight sets.
Andrew Jelken was victorious at the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Laine Larson won his matchup at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-1, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 by
Dalton Werckman.
Jacob Kubler and
Dexter Jackson picked up match wins at No. 5 and No. 6 with final scores of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-2.
DOUBLES:
The number one team of Jelken and Werckman kicked things off for Bethany Lutheran, defeating the Knights best duo by a score of 8-1. Larson and Kubler then teamed up in the next doubles match to defeat MLC 8-3.
UP NEXT:
The Vikings will next play St. Scholastica on Saturday at the BLC Tennis Courts. First serve is at 2 p.m.
