Men's tennis begins their season against Bethel and Wartburg

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Owatonna, Minn. – The Bethany men's tennis team began their season today with a pair of matches at the Owatonna Tennis Center against Bethel University and Wartburg College. The Vikings are still looking to shake off the rust as they lost both matches 9-0.

Laine Larson (Long Prairie, Minn./Junior) played the top singles spot for the Vikings. He was followed by Dalton Werckman (Foley, Minn./Junior), Carter Dahl (Albert Lea, Minn./Junior), Dexter Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Senior), Jordan Poff (Blaine, Minn./Junior), and Alec Cullen (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Freshman) at two through six respectively.

Against Bethel, it was a tough day for the Vikings at the singles spots as all players were beat in straight sets. After losing his first set 6-0, Dexter Jackson pushed his opponent to the limit in the second set before losing 7-5.

Laine Larson and Dalton Werckman played the number one doubles position for the Vikings. They were followed by the duos of Carter Dahl with Dexter Jackson at the second spot and Jordan Poff with Alec Cullen at the third spot. Larson and Werckman played well in their joint effort, taking six games from the Royals.

Kenny Johnson (Otsego, Minn./Freshman) got the nod at the six spot for the Vikings against Wartburg. It was another tough match for the Vikings.

Dexter Jackson won six games at the fourth spot, losing 6-4, 6-3.

Larson and Werckman lost at the top doubles spot 8-5. Dahl and Jackson lost their match at the second doubles spot 8-2 while the duo of Poff and Johnson lost 8-1.

Up next: The Vikings play UW-Eau Claire at 6:30 PM on Friday, February 9th at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
