Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team wrapped up its season on Saturday afternoon after suffering a 6-2 loss to UW-Superior in the UMAC Championship. With the loss the Vikings finish the season 12-7-3 overall while the Yellowjackets will advance to the NCAA Tournament with a 17-3-2 record.
UWS would get out of the gates strong, as a pair of miscues from the Vikings in the first six minutes would allow them open shots on net for the early 2-0 lead.
Daniel Almeida would then cut the deficit in half in the eighth minute, as he would race by the Yellowjacket defense after a great through ball from
Matteo Faraguna to make the score 2-1.
Superior though would put their stamp on the game just over 15 minutes in, as they would get an impressive finish off of a throw in to take a 3-1 lead before another Viking miscue just a minute later allowed them another goal to make it 4-1 just over 16 minutes into play.
The score would stay at that 4-1 mark as the team's opened up play after halftime and neither team could get much going in the early portions of the second.
A UWS free kick in the 65th minute though would prove fruitful to make the lead 5-1. Ben Klausen would give the Vikings a last gasp with 15 minutes to play, as he took a cross from Almeida to cut the deficit to 5-2 but a Superior goal just a minute later would be the dagger as they went up 6-2 and held on for the win.
Nick Lundberg made four saves in the loss in net for the Vikings.
