Janes to Take Over Tennis Programs

MANKATO, Minn. – Bethany Lutheran College announced today that Michael Janes has been named head tennis coach for the men's and women's programs.

Janes was a standout tennis player in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) at the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS). During a three-year collegiate career at UWS, Janes became the program's all-time leader in singles wins and was named UMAC Player of the Year in his final season of competition at Superior.

"I'm really excited to be able to take on the role of men's and women's tennis coach here at Bethany and to become a part of the Viking family," said Janes.

Janes was also a champion at the high school tennis level in North Dakota where he won the individual state singles championship in 2018, and was the runner up in 2017 when he competed for Legacy High School of Bismarck.

After graduating from UWS, Janes taught math in Bismarck and was an assistant coach for the tennis teams at Century and Legacy High Schools during the 2023-24 season.

"We're excited to have Michael join our coaching staff and to help make an immediate impact on our tennis program," said Co-Athletic Director Ryan Kragh. "He was a standout performer in our conference and knows not only what it takes to build a successful team, but also how to help our students grow off the court."
