ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Bethany volleyball clinched a spot in the UMAC postseason tournament Wednesday with a 3-0 win at Crown. The Vikings complete the sweep of the Polars while improving to 14-9 overall and 6-3 in the UMAC.Â
Maddie Meyer and Lexiss Trygg led the offense with 11 kills apiece while Abby Distad distributed 43 assists. The Vikings hit a collective .259 on the attack and limited the Polars to a .077 clip.Â
Crown gained its only lead of the match with the first point of the opening set, to which the Vikings responded with a 10-2 run, cruising to a 25-14 win. The second set was closely contested early as Crown was able to tie the score at 11 following a 6-1 run, but the Vikings answered with a 7-2 run and finished off the set with four straight points for a 25-17 victory.
With Distad on the serve to start the third, Bethany rattled off nine consecutive points and rolled to a 25-17 win. Both Meyer and Lilly Mehrkens eclipsed the 600-kill mark in their careers, becoming the eighth and ninth players in program history to reach the milestone.Â
Bethany travels to UM-Morris for a noon match on Saturday. The Vikings beat the Cougars 3-1 on Sept. 26.Â
