Bethany Announces 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame

MANKATO, Minn. – Bethany Lutheran College proudly announces the Class of 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. These individuals will be officially recognized at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, in the Ron Younge Gymnasium of the Sports and Fitness Center. Lori (Ebersviller) Hatlestad (1994-96) – Volleyball and Softball
Hatlestad was a standout multi-sport athlete for Bethany in both volleyball and softball from 1994-96. In volleyball, she served as a defensive specialist during her freshman season before transitioning to setter as a sophomore. She helped lead the Vikings to two Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) Southern Division championships, two MCCC State titles, two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIII championships, and back-to-back appearances at the National Tournament. On the softball diamond, Hatlestad played center field and was also a key contributor to teams that captured two division championships, and in 1996, MCCC and Region XIII championships with a National Tournament appearance. Individually, she was recognized as an NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American and NJCAA Academic All-American in 1996.

Omar McMillan (1994-96) – Basketball
McMillan was a standout guard for the Vikings men's basketball teams during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons that had a combined record of 39-11. As a freshman, McMillan helped guide Bethany to an 18-7 record and a strong finish in the Southern Division of the MCCC. He followed that with an outstanding sophomore campaign in 1995-96 as the Vikings posted a 21-4 record, advancing to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament. McMillan was named All-MCCC Southern Division and earned All-Conference honors following the season. Recognized for his stellar scoring ability and leadership on the court, McMillan averaged 15 points per game that year and finished as Bethany's free throw leader and one of the top players from the line in the state as the Vikings claimed the division title and MCCC Consolation Championship.

Bukata Hayes (1994-96) – Basketball
Known for his athleticism, leadership, and defensive intensity, Hayes was an outstanding point guard and team leader for the Vikings during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons. A two-year captain, Hayes helped lead Bethany to a combined record of 39-11 during his career, including an 18-7 mark as a freshman, followed by a 21-4 sophomore record as the Vikings claimed a spot in the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament. During his second season in 1995-96, Hayes averaged 11 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 9 assists per game while serving as one of the team's primary playmakers and defensive leaders. He earned Bethany's Most Valuable Defensive Player Award and was also recognized as the team's assist leader. Hayes helped guide the Vikings to a Southern Division Championship and a MCCC Consolation Championship during the 1995-96 campaign.

Ryan Caperoon (1998-99) – Soccer
Caperoon played center midfield for the Bethany men's soccer team during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. A talented playmaker and leader on the field, he served as the 1999 team captain. Over his two-year Bethany career, Caperoon recorded 15 goals and 28 assists. He led the team in assists during both of his seasons with the Vikings and was named the team's MVP during the 1998 campaign. Caperoon earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors and was named All-Region XIII following the 1998 season. His combination of vision, passing ability, and leadership made him one of the top midfielders in the region during his Bethany career.

Abigail Lecy (2007-10) – Golf
Lecy competed for the Bethany women's golf team from 2007-10 and established herself as one of the top golfers in program history. A four-time All-Conference selection, Lecy won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship in both 2007 and 2008, and was a key contributor to the growth and success of the women's golf program during its early years. Lecy still ranks among the top performers in Viking history with a 94.80 average over her career. Her 2008-09 season scoring average of 93.83 also remains among the top individual season performances all-time.

Justin Schwecke (2007-10) – Baseball
Schwecke was a standout outfielder for the Viking baseball team from 2007-10. He also pitched in relief in 2009. One of Bethany's top offensive players in team history, he earned All-Conference honors all four seasons, including First Team recognition in 2009 and 2010 – years he also claimed the UMAC Player of the Year award. He also earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors during his career. Among Bethany's career stats, Schwecke ranks at the top all-time in batting average (.402), slugging percentage (.640), runs scored (175), hits (192), doubles (47), triples (16), total bases (310), walks (62), and stolen bases (49). He also ranks among the program's all-time leaders in on-base percentage (.475), home runs (13), and RBIs (150). During an outstanding 2009 season, Schwecke led the Vikings with a .456 batting average, 58 runs scored, 68 hits, and 62 RBIs, while also setting single-season school records in several offensive categories. He followed that in 2010 with another exceptional campaign, batting .396 with 96 total bases and earning regional recognition. Known for his consistency, leadership, and offensive production, Schwecke remains one of the most decorated players to wear a Viking uniform.
