MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany men's soccer won its second straight conference match Saturday with a 4-1 decision over Northwestern-St. Paul at Scheels Field. The Vikings improve to 2-4-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the UMAC.Â
It took nearly 40 minutes but Rodrigo Cardoso got the scoring started for the Vikings with some nifty footwork around a defender and then rifled a shot into the lower right corner of the net. Bethany held a 1-0 advantage at half with a 3-2 lead in shots.Â
Five minutes into the second half, Ted Tendaie was the beneficiary of a rebounded shot in the box, netting what proved to be the game-winning goal. Miguel Goncalves took a long shot from the left side that was deflected by the keeper right to Tendaie.
Ten minutes later, Tendaie tallied his team-leading fourth goal of the season after spinning around a defender and beating the keeper to the right side of the net. Vincent Oliveira set up the goal with a centering pass from the left corner.Â
Tendaie set up the Vikings' fourth goal of the game by leading Goncalves up the left side who sprinted into the box and made a perfect cross to Oliveira for the score on the back post in the 64th minute.
Northwestern ended the shutout in the 80th minute.Â
Bethany ended with a 13-5 advantage in shots and 7-2 on goal. Daniel Hughes earned the win in goal after making one save.Â
The Vikings continue play at home Tuesday against Crown with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.Â
