SUPERIOR, Wis. - Bethany track & field is nearing the culmination of the indoor season Friday with the first of two days at the UMAC Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The women closed out the first day of competition in fifth place with 33 total points. These points for the Vikings came from Campbell Amundson and Taryn Zellmann in the 400-meter dash, with times of 1:02.12 and 1:03.64, respectively. Amundson placed fourth, while Zellmann took seventh. The other scoring on the track came from the 4x200 meter relay, which placed fourth with a time of 1:53.27. In the field, the Vikings had some great performances. Sarah Smith placed second in high jump with a height of 1.50 meters, and two long jumpers scored. Samantha Kedsch won the event with a distance of 5.16 meters, while Avery Hopp placed sixth with a jump of 4.88 meters.

On the men's side, the Vikings ended the day in fourth place with a score of 22 points. James Younge kicked off the scoring on the track with a seventh place finish in the mile with a time of 4:46.89. The next scoring on the track came from August Weinstein, whose time of 17:36.89 placed him sixth in the event. Finally, to end the night on the track, the Vikings scored in three straight events. Matthew Koosman's time of 52.93 allowed him to place sixth in the 400-meter dash. Next, the Vikings' distance medley relay team placed fourth, as the team of Rosenthal, Kaesermann, Matzke, and Younge finished with a time of 11:52.89. Immediately afterwards, the 4x200 meter relay team of Halvorson, Skaden, Bolanos Talbot, and Kellett placed fourth as well with a time of 1:39.87. Meanwhile in the field, Kaesermann took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.07 meters.

Both Vikings teams have plenty of opportunities to improve their team scores on Saturday, on day two of the UMAC Championships. Some Vikings that will be returning for finals include Sarah Smith in the 60-meter hurdles, and William Kaesermann will run the same event for the men.
