Mankato, Minn. - Bethany volleyball battled it out once again against Gustavus Adolphus tonight at home, but unfortunately did not finish the night with a win.
The Vikings put up a fight a couple weeks ago, taking Gustavus to five games to win it, but tonight it ended in three close sets.
“It was tough having won against them last time, but we played so well together as a team both offensively and defensively, that we all went away happy with the way we played,” said sophomore Emily Schrupp (Norwood, Minn./Mayer Lutheran).
All three games were close, 25-23, 26-24, and 25-22. Nicole Jones (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) showed that she could not only set, but also played a major role defensively, getting up 11 digs for the team. Klea Swenson (Nicollet, Minn./LCWM) played an amazing offensive game at the net, blocking many of the hit attempts by Gustavus. She also led the team with eight kills.
Both teams did well digging up the ball and setting it up, and the crowd enjoyed watching a strong game with long rallies. They were point by point games, with not a lot of runs, leaving little room for error.
It was a red out game for the Vikings, and fans all showed up in red to help motivate the team and get them pumped up and ready to play. “It definitely helped motivate us to see all the fans coming out to cheer us on,” sophomore Meghan Houlihan (Elysian, Minn./WEM) stated.
Viking volleyball will have a game again this Wednesday against Martin Luther at 7 p.m. for their annual Dig Pink Game.
