Duluth, Minn. - The Bethany Volleyball team headed to Ashland, Wisonsin Friday night to take on the Northland Lumberjills. The Vikings once again went to four games against Northland, and once again got the win.
Northland came out right away beating the Vikings 25-21. "We didn't go in fully prepared," said Allie VanHee (Madelia, Minn./Madelia), but the Vikings pulled it together and won the next three games 25-17, 25-14, and 25-23. "After the first game was out of the way, we fixed our mistakes and moved on to win the next three," said player Alyssa Fredrickson (Sanborn, Minn./Red Rock Central).
Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) led the team with 19 kills and 19 digs, and Fredrickson and Vanessa Harkins (Le Center, Minn./Le Center) both added eight kills. Emily Franzen (Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura) had 25 set assists for the 53 kills for the Vikings.
"A win was exactly what we needed today, and that's what we got. We fixed our errors for the last three games, and that's what we needed to see," Head Coach Sue Forrey said.
Saturday the team traveled to Duluth to play the St. Scholastica Saints. The Vikings once again had a tough time against the Saints and lost in three games with scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-13.
"Our serve receive wasn't like it should be, and that caused us to suffer offensively," said Edmison, who led the team with eight kills and 14 digs.
"We beat ourselves with little errors that should have been avoided," said assistant coach William Tatge.
The Vikings were only hitting at .031% while St. Scholastica was hitting at .286%.The Vikings did however improve their serving game, only having two serving errors in the match.
"St. Scholastica is a tough team to beat," said Emilie James (Aurora, Colo./Rocky Mountain). "They really tested our level of play today and showed us what we need to continue to work on."
The Vikings are still in the hunt for the UMAC Post-season Tournament and will take on conference rival Martin Luther at home Wednesday at 7 p.m.
