Vikings fall in five sets to MLC

Mankato, Minn. - The Viking Volleyball team came out on fire Friday night against Martin Luther, winning the first two sets. Despite getting the quick lead in the match BLC dropped the next three sets to record a loss.

"We really came out strong, which didn't happen the last time we played them," senior Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) said. The girls didn't let up in the first two sets winning 25-22, and 25-23.

"We were with them the whole time, it was a pretty back and forth match," said Madison Marsh (Trimont, Minn./Martin County West). The third game the girls kept up the intensity, but MLC managed to slip away in the end with a 25-23 civtory. The fourth game the Vikings had some trouble right away, and the points they lost in the begining cost them the game when they were unable to come back, losing 25-18. The fifth and final game the girls were pumped but gave away point early and were unable to grab the lead falling 16-14.

"We really played well offensively tonight," Head Coach Sue Forrey said. "Amanda had 18 kills, and Shelby had 14, and then Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn./Nicollet) came out so strong tonight adding 13 kills."

The Vikings out killed MLC, having 60 kills to their 57. Both teams had serving errors, MLC with nine and BLC with eight. Taylor Kahlow (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), Amanda and Jessi Jurries (Trimont, Minn./Martin County West) all had 12 digs for the match, and Krissy Schemmel (Mankato, Minn./Riverland CC) had 31 assists. What hurt the Vikings most was the Knights 16 blocks, compared to the BLC's six.

It was a dissapointing loss, though the Vikings played well. The next home game for Bethany Lutehran will be this Friday night for Parents/Senior night agaisnt Presentation at 7 p.m.
