Vikings finish 1-1 after day one of BLC Invite

Game 1
Game 2

Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team hosted their first home game of the season at the second annual Bethany Lutheran Invite Friday.

The Vikings did not come out as strong as they would have liked in the first match against Luther at 4 p.m. BLC lost in three games with scores of 25-20, 25-11, and 25-15.

Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) led the Vikings with seven kills, but the Vikings did not have the offensive game they usually have, and only had 21 kills to Luther's 40. The passes were there, the Vikings were just unable to hit the ball down.

Bethany came back at 8 p.m. to play Presentation and came more prepared to play. The squad won all three games, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-11.

"It was a little scary in the second game when we started to let up a little, but the girls came back and showed that they could come back and win," Head Coach Sue Forrey said.

Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown Mayer) led the team with 11 kills and 13 digs. Vanessa Harkins (Le Center, Minn./Le Center) added eight kills. The Vikings also added seven serving aces which helped BLC get a quick win over Presentation.

Bethany Lutheran will be back in action Saturday morning for day two of the Invitational facing off against Dubuque and Gustavus.
