MANKATO, Minn. - When the Bethany Lutheran men's and women's soccer teams travel to UW Superior on Saturday, one team from both matchups will emerge atop the
UMAC standings unless there is a tie. Both the Vikings and
Yellowjackets men's and women's teams are a perfect 3-0 in the
UMAC this season, with the early season contests carrying some extra weight for all four programs.
Men's Soccer vs. UW Superior
Saturday's game will mark the 24
th all-time matchup between the two teams, with the Yellowjackets holding an 18-3-2 edge. The two teams have met six times in the last two seasons, with the road team winning all four regular season matchups and UWS defeating the Vikings in the UMAC championship game twice.
Bethany enters the contest coming off a 3-1 win over Martin Luther College on Tuesday, and they have used an all-around offensive attack through six matches this year. Lorenzo Falleti leads the Vikings with five goals and Daniel Almeida has added four, with each player also dishing out two assists. Ben Klausen has chipped in with two goals for Bethany, while six other Vikings have added a goal each. Nick Lundberg has spent the most time in net, making 13 saves while allowing three goals for a .813 save percentage.
Like Bethany, Superior has seen goals come from all over the place through its first seven contests. Freddy Watson and Jake Kidd are the two UWS players with multiple goals with three and two, respectively, while nine other Yellowjackets have added one. Alex Paredes is back in net this year for UWS, saving 27 shots while allowing five goals for a .844 save percentage.
Women's Soccer vs. UW Superior
Saturday's contest will be the 24
th matchup between the teams with UWS holding a 12-8-3 advantage and winning the past six contests.
The Bethany Lutheran women's team is coming off a 1-0 win over Martin Luther on Tuesday, with Asia Jota finding the lone goal in the contest. Through seven matches, Elena Lujan Rubio leads the Viking offense with seven goals and two assists, while Ashley Casper and Olaitz Azkue have added four and three goals, respectively. In net, Brooke Wolanin has started every game, making 32 saves while allowing 11 goals for a .744 save percentage.
UWS enters the matchup with its most recently contest being a 3-1 win over Northwestern on Tuesday. They've been led through six games by Mya Holmquist and Niya Wilson who each have five goals and three assists on the year. In net, Quinn Clark and Jenna Lang have split time evenly, combining for 29 saves and nine goals allowed for a .763 save percentage. Â
