Volleyball Completes Sweep Over Martin Luther

MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany volleyball cruised to a straight set victory over Martin Luther on Tuesday, securing the series sweep while improving to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in the UMAC. 

Riley Sammon and Lexiss Trygg led the attack with 10 kills apiece, while hitting a blistering .643 and .571, respectively. Maddie Meyer was close behind with nine kills and a .471 attack rate, including one block solo and five assists. The Vikings collectively hit .289. 

Bethany jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the first and never looked back in a dominant 25-10 win. Martin Luther gained its first lead of the match early in the second, going up 4-1, and held the advantage for most of the frame. Trailing 14-11, the Vikings went on a 5-0 run to gain their first lead of the set at 15-14. The Knights went back on top at 16-15 and 17-16, but the Vikings closed out the frame on a 9-2 run for a 25-19 decision. 

The home squad rolled its momentum into the third with an early 6-1 lead which resulted in a 25-14 win. 

Abby Distad recorded 37 assists. Avery Carlson led the back line with 13 digs. 

Bethany continues conference play at home Saturday afternoon against UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets won the first meeting this season 3-2 on Oct. 3.
