Mankato, Minn. - Some people think disappointment is spelled with a D, but for the Bethany volleyball team tonight, disappointment was spelled with 25-10, 25-10, and 25-14 in a loss against Northwestern. The Eagles are defending UMAC regular season champs and were voted second in the preseason coaches’ poll.
Rather than let this get them down, the Vikings will use this match, and come back with more determination and dedication in tomorrow’s game against Crown.
With setter Nicole Jones (North Manakto, Minn./Mankato East) gone for the night, setters Kerri Jones (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Marcie Flygare (Winthrop, Minn./Minnesota Valley) stepped up to the plate to set for the Vikings. Both did well in the position, but against the height of Northwestern’s front row, it was a hard match up.
The Vikings had trouble at the net and it showed with their 17 kills to Northwestern’s 47.
It was a sad loss for the Vikings, but they will come out ready to play Saturday against Crown at 1 p.m. in the second conference match-up.
