Mankato, Minn. - The Bethany men's soccer team took the win in a nail-biting season opener against the Buena Vista Beavers on Wednesday night. With a score of 1-0, fans and players alike were ecstatic to see the men defeat Buena Vista in overtime.
The Vikings were on the offensive in the first half, out-shooting the Beavers 9-2. At the end of the second half, neither team had found the back of the net. Bethany Lutheran's defense stayed stong limiting the Beavers opprotunities. The teams went into sudden death overtime after senior keeper Cameron Koopman (Phelps, Wis./Phelps) stretched out to make an amazing save. Joe Nuah (St. Paul, Minn./Arlington), BLC's leading scorer last season, kicked in the game-ending goal.
The Vikings will take Robert Morris in a road game on September 10 at 4 p.m.
