Box Score
St. Peter, Minn. – The men’s tennis team took on Minnesota State, Mankato tonight in the indoor Swanson Tennis Center. The relatively young and inexperienced Vikings were able to get a match under their belt, while facing one of the most difficult opponents on the schedule this season.
Newcomer Eric DeBruzzi (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) was a bight spot showing some strength in his singles match though he fell 6-0, 6-1. DeBruzzi was also part of the best performance of the night with teammate Ben Schroeder (Minneapolis, Minn./Dakota County CC) in the doubles competition falling 8-2.
Most of the matches for the Vikings resulted in shut-out sets against the much larger Minnesota State. Felipe Ortega (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) and Nicholas Croy (Tacoma, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) were the only other competitors for Bethany Lutheran to put points on the board.
Taking on a tough competitor like MSU should prepare the Vikings for the less intense conference season which begins on March 26 against St. Scholastica. The men’s tennis team doesn’t have another match until that date.
