Viking offense settles in against North Central

Coon Rapids, Minn. – The men’s soccer team brought their skills to the metro area for the first time this season Tuesday night. The Vikings’ players dominated the game on both offense and defense.

Bethany Lutheran won 3-1 against North Central, favoring good overlapping and tactical ball movement. North Central took the game speed up to a very high level with their hustle and constant attacks on loose balls, but patience and control proved the better plan in tonight’s game.

Noah Heidorn (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls ) worked between the posts for the Vikes saving all but one of North Central’s shots, he had his work cut out for him since the Bethany defense kept the ball in front of them for most of the game.

Joe Nuah (St. Paul, Minn/Arlington) led off the scoring for the men with a beautiful strike from left of the box hitting net just inside the far right post.  The assist was a perfect setup from Jimmy DuTremaine (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy).

Freshman Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carson) showed what he could do, hitting two goals in the second half to put the game away. His first, set up beautifully by Nuah, was a bullet from inside the box, blasted right past the North Central Keeper, his second one, made possible with a pass from Juan Garcia (Arlington, Minn./Sibley East), was even more impressive being hit from nearly 20 yards out.

This win on the road was filled with exciting counter attacks and a strong defensive effort from all of the Bethany men. Technical skills, ball movement, and communication appear to be coming together nicely for the men.

These skills are being honed just in time to begin conference play. The Vikings will take a long road trip this weekend to play both Northland (Ashland, Wis.) on Friday and St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) on Saturday.

The Viking’s men improved to 2-2 on the season heading into conference play.
