Saints put end to Vikings' season in UMAC semis

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. - For the third time in four years, the Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team qualified for the UMAC Postseason Tournament. In those two previous appearances, the Vikings were unable to reach the championship game and that was no different on Wednesday as St. Scholastica handed Bethany a 4-0 defeat in a UMAC semifinal match.

The Saints got on the board quickly and got all of their scoring in the first half. Joe Watt scored from close-in in the match's second minute. CSS scored again in the 13th minute as Sean Morgan got a shot over Ryan Bolte's left shoulder for the 2-0 lead. Four minutes later, St. Scholastica found the net again as Ryan Cullen scored off a corner. Watt, the person who started the scoring, ended the scoring with a 31st minute goal on a penalty kick. Watt accounted for all of the Saints' points, scoring twice and assisting on the others.

The Vikings were outshot 25-4 in the match, including 14-2 in shots on goal. Noah Heidorn recorded eight saves.

Bethany's 2013 season ends with an 11-9 overall record and a 9-5 mark in conference play.
