Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team (3-5 overall) split its matches Saturday at the Macalester Invite. The Vikings were swept 3-0 by Central but defeated host-Macalester 3-1.
This marked the fourth-straight win in the series against the Scots.
Against the Dutch, senior Megan Rutt (Le Center, Minn.) had six kills and added 13 digs. Classmate Veeva Lee (St. Paul) joined her in double digits with 11 digs.
Junior Brittany Sanders (St. James, Minn.) had 12 assists and senior Kalli Mathiasen (St. Cloud, Minn.) recorded a career-high five service aces.
In the tournament finale, the Scots won the first set 25-20. In the second frame, the Vikings trailed 11-7, but rallied back to even it at 11 all. The score was tied nine more times, which included at 24-24. Macalester suffered two consecutive hitting errors to give BLC the 26-24 win.
The third set was knotted at 23 all until Rutt tallied two consecutive kills and combined with teammate senior Haley Domonske (Waterville, Minn.) for the block to win 25-23.
The Vikings trailed 15-12 in the fourth set, until they compiled a 5-1 run to take the 17-16 lead, which they never relinquished.
BLC returns to the court Wednesday when it travels to face St. Olaf at 7 p.m.
