Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Saturday traveled to North Central for a UMAC contest and defeated the Rams 7-2. With the win the Vikings move to 2-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference while the Rams fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in UMAC play.
Bethany would get the scoring started in the 24th minute as
Daniel Almeida would get taken down in the box and go on to convert the penalty kick for the 1-0 advantage. It would be less tha a minute before the Vikings would score again, as
Bryan Jaimes would play one up the left side to
Christian Edwards who would set up and fire one past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.
The Rams would then answer a few minutes later with consecutive goals, finding the back of the net in the 29th and 33rd minute to even things at 2-2 headed to the half.
In the second half, Bethany would get fouled in the box just seven minutes in and
Jamie van Wijland would step up and get his first goal of the season to put the Vikings up 3-2.
Edwards would then get his second goal of the contest in the 62nd minute, as
Liam Gosch would send one to the far post where Edwards was waiting and would put it in with his right foot for the 4-2 lead.
Almeida would then get his second goal of the contest in the 70th minute, as
Santiago Rios would make a run up the left side and force the defense to commit before finding a wide open Almeida in front of the net for the punch in goal to make it 5-2.
Liam Gosch would then get his first goal of the career in the 77th minute with a left footed strike from outside the box before an 88th minute penalty kick goal from
Gijs van Eldik would bring the score to its 7-2 final.
Nick Lundberg made two saves for the Vikings to take the win in net.
Bethany will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Martin Luther at 7:00 p.m.
