NEW ULM, Minn. - The Bethany men's and women's golf teams competed for the Wittenberg and Saxony Cups on Thursday against Martin Luther. The Viking men retained the Wittenberg Cup for the second straight year, and fourth time in the past five seasons, while the women lost in the Saxony Cup match.Â
The Bethany men, who won 301-311, were led by medalist Keaton Ginter, who shot a two-over par 73. Anthony Nicolai tied for second with a 74. Julian Bhardwaj tied for fourth with a 76 and August Waxin rounded out the scoring with a 78 and tied for sixth.Â
The Viking women, who lost 408-444, were paced by Lydia Schmid, who finished second with a 21-over par 92. Flora Wegner took fourth with a 99, Kennedy Halper finished ninth at 125, and Brianna Lienig placed 10th at 128.Â
"The guys had a sweep of MLC and it was great to see solid play through entire lineup," said Head Coach Mitch DeKruif. "Keaton received medalist, whioch was the fourth consecutive time in the Wittenberg Cup. We saw solid progress in the middle part of our lineups.
"Lydia was one shot out of medalist and I'm confident she'll continue to progress through the season. We put ourselves into good form heading into the 36-hole event in Superior this weekend."
Bethany next competes at the Twin Ports Invite in Superior, Wis. on Saturday and Sunday.Â
