Duluth, Minn. – The women’s soccer team ended their season after a 2-1 loss to St. Scholastica in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Post-season Semifinals.
The Vikings ended with an 8-8-3 overall record after finishing fourth in the conference regular season. This was their second time advancing to the UMAC Post-season in as many years.
The Vikes, who were unable to score on St. Scholastica when they met previously in the year, led the game 1-0 until the 74th minute when a Saints player tied the game. St. Scholastica managed to find the back of the net again in the 78th minute to finalize the score.
Hannah Spaulding (Savage, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) scored for the Vikings, just seven minutes into the game assisted by Joelle Pipal (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) to give Bethany Lutheran the early lead. The Vikings gave the number one ranked Saints a scare, threatening the upset.
Vikings keeper Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) recorded six saves during the game.
St. Scholastica outshot the Vikings 17 to three and had an 11-0 corner kick advantage.
With the season wrapping-up, Women’s Soccer UMAC All-conference Awards will be announced November 8.
