Volleyball shows youth on day two of BLC Invite

Game 1
Game 2

Mankato, Minn. - The Vikings did not come ready to play in day two of their home tournament, the Bethany Lutheran Invite.

That was a common thought among teammates and coaches today after matches against Dubuque and Gustavus ended in two losses.

The Vikings started at 10 a.m. this morning against Dubuque. After two disappointing losses of 25-16 and 25-8, BLC managed to come back and win the third game 27-25, only to lose the 4th game in a close 25-22.

"We were lacking intensity, and didn't play to our full potential," a player stated about the games. BLC had 30 hitting errors and four missed serves.

Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) had a good offensive game however, and put down 12 kills for the Vikings. Freshman libero Jessi Jurries (Trimont, Minn./Martin County West) added 25 digs for the Vikings.

The Vikings came back to play Gustavus at 2 p.m. They lost in three games, but managed to pick up intensity towards the end, just a little too late.

The Vikings once again suffered errors at the net, which gave them a negative hitting average, hurting the team offensively. The team did however get five serving aces, and Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) led the team with eight kills. "We have a lot to work on in practice," Head Coach Sue Forrey said, "but we'll get there."

The Vikings will travel to take on Buena Vista on Tuesday night before taking on Northwestern in the UMAC opener on Friday in St. Paul.
