Vikings drop UMAC opener

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. - The Bethany volleyball team finished off a tough non-conference schedule with only one match win in 13 tries. That tough schedule continued Friday for the UMAC opener Friday at Minn.-Morris, a team that is predicted to finish second in the conference.

After two rough opening sets, the Vikings managed to make it a battle in the later sets, but still fell to the Cougars in four sets.

Bethany stayed alive by winning a tight third set after dropping the first two 25-11 and 25-18. The third set was a back and forth affair with neither team leading by more than four points. Minn.-Morris held that four-point advantage at 18-14. The Vikings battled back to tie it at 20 after a Miranda Krenske kill. Kasslin Swenson added a kill to make it 24-23 and a Morris error on the next point gave the set to Bethany.

The Vikings held an early lead in set four, but the Cougars managed to pull away and win the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Swenson led the team in both kills (8) and digs (17). Krenske added 15 digs, 11 assists, and seven kills. Emily Franzen had 12 assists.

Bethany (1-13, 0-1 in UMAC) is back on the court Saturday at Crown at 11 a.m.
