John Baumann arrived at Bethany in the fall of 1996, and by his sophomore year he had become a fixture at Viking athletic events. For nearly three decades, fans have come to expect his steady presence at the scorer’s table—whether running the scoreboard for volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, or softball, or managing the basketball shot clock. Known for his precision and reliability, Baumann is recognized as one of the top scoreboard operators in the region. His skill has earned him invitations to work games for area high schools, colleges, summer leagues, and amateur teams. Yet, Bethany has always come first. No matter the opportunity elsewhere, Baumann makes sure his alma mater’s athletic programs are his top priority. Beyond athletics, Baumann is equally devoted to his church and community. At Mount Olive Lutheran in Mankato, he oversees maintenance and groundskeeping, and he shares his musical gifts as a talented organist. He regularly fills in for congregations in need, and his playing has graced countless weddings and funerals, bringing comfort and joy through music. A native of Marshall, Minnesota, and the son of the late Martin and Marrina Baumann, John’s faithful service—whether at Bethany, in his church, or in the wider community—reflects his deep commitment to excellence and to serving others.
