Robert “Bob” Schweim was a dominant presence in the paint for the Bethany Vikings during the 1994–95 and 1995–96 basketball seasons. As the team’s power forward, he combined strength and skill to anchor the Vikings’ frontcourt. In his first season, he posted 393 points and 235 rebounds, and as a sophomore he added 417 points and 237 rebounds. Both years he led the team—and ranked among the best in the MCCC Conference—in rebounding. Over his two years, Bethany amassed a combined record of 39–11, including a 21–4 mark in 1995–96. That season, Schweim’s leadership and production earned him All-MCCC, All-Southern Division, and All-Region XIII honors, as well as a spot on the All-Region XIII Tournament Team. He was also named team captain, a testament to his leadership on and off the court. After Bethany, Schweim continued his career at St. Olaf College, where he once again served as team captain and earned MIAC All-Conference honors. His success as a player laid the foundation for a lifelong involvement in basketball and education. A Mankato East graduate, Bob went on to earn his degree in education from St. Olaf and has spent nearly 20 years teaching and coaching. He has held both assistant and head coaching positions at Burnsville and Prior Lake High Schools, leading teams to three Minnesota State Tournament appearances. His coaching excellence was recognized in 2008 when he was named Section 2AAAA Coach of the Year. His alma mater also honored him with induction into the Mankato East Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. Bob’s commitment extends beyond the court. He has guided teams and booster clubs in community service efforts, supporting organizations like Feed My Starving Children and partnering with numerous youth basketball associations. Today, he and his wife, Kelly, make their home in Lakeville, Minnesota, with their children, Ivan and Elizabeth. The family is active at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, where Bob continues to model service and leadership. From his standout days as a Viking to his years shaping student-athletes as a coach and mentor, Robert Schweim’s career reflects dedication, leadership, and an enduring passion for the game of basketball.
